The Martha's Vineyard Black Owned Business Directory was originally created as a passion project to highlight and connect the Black business community on the Vineyard to the people looking for them. In 2020 the online platform exploded during the pandemic and around the events of the murder of George Floyd. Island visitors were looking for a print version to carry around with them as a resource, so I created the first magazine in print in 2021. Each year in print, the publication has grown by 30 pages and has a national platform, being covered by Black Enterprise, Coastal Living Magazine, Ebony, Medium and more. The Directory has grown by adding additional supports, by working with supportive partners to assist in extending the shoulder seasons for Black owned businesses, as our tourist economy provides additional challenges for our business community.
